Description
A mid-Victorian silver mug, of baluster form to a spread footed base, with floral scroll embossed decoration, cartouche with contemporary presentation engraving, and foliate capped double scroll handle. Hallmarked Alexander Macrae, London 1865. Height 12.5cm, weight 9.05ozt (281.3g).
Condition Report:
- Engraving reads, To J.J. Mullay Esq're. November, 1866. From a few friends at "122"
- Displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- With residues of dried polish to various parts.
- Slight compression to the foot on one side; it is pushed up a little bit into the main body.
- Surface wear and rubbing to areas of the raised decoration, causing slight loss of detail or definition to some areas.
- Hallmarks located to base and these all clear and legible.
