Description
GEORGE W. SHIEBLER & CO. "MEDALLION / ETRUSCAN" STERLING SILVER MUG, cylindrical form with bulbous base and a D-form handle, all-over hammered texture featuring eight Classical-style busts around the rim and to exterior handle, engraved or die-rolled Aesthetic-style band to lower well, two engraved "cracks" at rim and base, front side with engraved "P.P.O." initials. Base with maker's mark above "STERLING / 472". Total weight: 5.200 ozt. George W. Shiebler & Co., New York City, NY. Fourth quarter 19th/early 20th century. 3 3/8" H rim, 2 5/8" DOA rim.
Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections, care, preservation, and future acquisitions.
Condition
Very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and nicks, a moderate dent to lower side, rim with possibly slight bending to one side or could be as made, base with residue/surface loss due to removed accession number.
