**Originally Listed At $300**

Native American, Northeastern United States / Canada, Great Lakes region, Ojibwa / Winnebago, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand made deerskin purse with a drawstring closure, beaded with bright glass seed beads in floral patterns. The bag is sewn together from 3 panels with fringed hems. Note the maple leaf on one side, the maple tree and delicious syrup the sap produces weas a revered for its medicinal properties. Traditionally such pouches may have been used for storing personal items such as tobacco, but this was probably made for sale as a purse, appealing to the tastes of the time. Size: 6.5" L x 4" W (16.5 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: private Alamo, California, USA collection, acquired in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1998
