Rare Redware Flowerpot with Vibrant Green Glaze, Stamped Twice "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," Pennsylvania origin, circa 1850-1880, tapered flowerpot with rounded rim and attached saucer with rounded rim and footed base, the surface covered in a striking, neon copper glaze over a darker ground, reminiscent of art pottery produced by more sophisticated ceramic manufacturers. Shoulder and underside impressed with "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO" maker's marks. One of Bell's finest and most visually-appealing glaze treatments. 1 7/8" area of glaze loss to exterior of rim, which has been colored, along with two other small colored spots to rim. Some additional glaze wear to interior of rim, which has been colored. 2 1/4" and 1 1/2" hairlines from rim. Two very minor 1" surface lines from rim. H 5".
