Description
Patent to a Freedman. It is little known that some Indians also became slave owners and many African Americans lives within their reservations as slaves. This document is signed by Green M. Curtain, Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation and Douglas Johnston, Governor of the Choctaw Nation and countersigned by the Secretary and Clerk of the Department of the Interior. It is dated June 4, 14, and 19th respectively. Two seals of the Choctaw and Chickasaws nations. An important American Indian and Black History document.
