Condition/Details: This large volume is a historical and contemporary depiction of the English city of St. Albans, including sections on St. Alban's Abbey, lives of the Abbots, Sopwell Ruins, St. Stephen's Church, the fortress-palace of Kingsbury, and other monuments. The work is well illustrated with in-text decorations and beautiful full-page plate engravings by Frederic G. Kitton. This copy is part of a limited de luxe edition of 300 copies, of which this is No. 28, and is signed by both Ashdown and Kitton. The frontispiece plate also bears Kitton's signature. The book is bound in three-quarter leather with gilt embossing and library tape to the spine. The text is solidly bound and all pages and plates are bright and clean. The book measures approximately 13" by 10".
