Description
A great wood bulldog cane with articulating mouth. The dark hardwood handle is 2 1/8” high and 2 1/8” to the side. It depicts in fine detail, the head of bulldog with amber glass eyes. There is a lever at the dog’s throat that is spring-driven. When depressed, it opens the dog’s mouth widely revealing a light red interior. It could be used to hold gloves or tickets or any other appropriate objects that might need temporary security, or to free up the user’s hands. There is a 2/3” brass collar on an oak shaft that ends with a 7/8” dark horn ferrule. The overall length is 35 2/3” and the condition is very good with a strong working spring. It is probably English, ca 1895, and it is a very fine example of the kind. Estimate: $850-$1250
