Autographed letter written as President of the Royal Academy to the English painter Prince Hoare

Sheet size: 9,5 x 15,6 cm
In very fine condition
In his capacity as President of the Royal Academy West wrote to the English painter Prince Hoare: ‘Mr. West has the satisfaction to inform Mr. Hoare that he made known (his intended Academical correspondence) to the Council of the Royal Academy agreeable to his promise – and that the Council highly approve of his intention. Mr. West is obliged to Mr. Hoare from Mr. Clarks publication’. The single sheet is written across the front side. It has no location and date, but presumably originated in London in 1803.
The sheet is in a very fine and clean condition and measures 9,5 x 15,6 cm.
Benjamin West (1738-1820)
The painter Benjamin West was probably one of the first American artists of relevance. Nevertheless, he spent most of his life in London, where he participated in the founding of the Royal Academy of Arts, and from 1792 was its president.
