Description
An extensive and original set of 24 planes all marked by the makers, James and George Lindsey, both type “A and B” marks (AWP) appear. These brothers were planemakers in Huntington, Massachusetts from 1856 – 1879. On the heel of several planes are marks of “J. Russell & Co.” the store that likely retailed them in Holyoke, Mass. I observed three different Russell stamp variations on the planes, most but not all have a Russell stamp. Each plane also has the (probably original) owners mark of, “G. Maxwell”. Rarely does an American set of planes in this condition come to market! Please note that the next two lots likely came from this set and have always been together but they do not have the Lindsey makers marks. Condition: Excellent
