Description
A nice Etruscan Genucilia Group footed dish, mid-4th Century BC, the tondo with a female head in profile framed by spiral waves, on a short pedestal rimmed foot. Dia: 4 5/8 in (11.7 cm); H: 2 ¼ in (5.7 cm). Old repairs. This type of plate had great fortune in Etruria in the fourth century BC that produced them in large quantities and exported them throughout the Mediterranean basin. They owe their name to a plate registered with the name P. GENUCILIA preserved in the Museum of Providence. Ex Collection of a well-known Italian private collector beginning in the late 1940's.
