This fine tea and coffee set made of 925 sterling silver by Gorham American company comprises a large pot on a warmer, a coffee pot and a teapot as well as a creamer and a sugar bowl. All pieces are engraved with the ornate monogram ‘LMG’. This high-quality ensemble was created in 1896/7. The neo-baroque shape with ebony handles reflects the taste of the time.
The large pot is marked with trident hallmark (1897) and ‘3 pint’, the coffee pot is marked ‘2 pint’ and inscribed with the retailer ‘SPAULDING & CO. CHICAGO’, the teapot is marked with shell hallmark (1896) and ‘2 pint’, the creamer is marked with trident hallmark (1897) and ¾ pint, the sugar bowl is marked with shell hallmark (1896).
The silver set is in good condition with signs of wear. The large pot and the sugar bowls with small notches, the coffee pot with a dent. The handle of the teapot was broken and has been repaired, one of the pins is missing. The burner of the coffee pot warmer is missing. The total weight is approx. 4,100 grams.
