Description
A good early 20th century portrait miniature on ivory with related documentation.The sitter Alexander Rodger Greig (1881-1916), depicting bust-length, 4" x 3" (10cm x 7.5cm), in yellow metal ('rose gold') frame, the suspension loop marked 9c, in a fine plush-lined fitted hide case with winged doors and easel back, sold with Trinidadian passport, giving birth date 11th March 1881, place of birth Glasgow, N.B (North Britain), age 34, occupation 'Planter'.Family records show a birth date of 11.31881 at Cathcart, Renfrewshire, and date of death as 19th November 1916, burial at Cathcart Cemetery. He married Lynda Marsden Bayley 1st October 1913 and had one daughter. It is believed that the wealthy family had him sent to Trinidad when the Great War broke out, to avoid engagement in the conflict and so guarantee continuation in the family firm.
Condition
All items in very good condition. Portrait may have a photographic base but is on ivory.
