Description
Egypt, Late Period, ca. 712 - 332 BCE. A masterfully carved and painted polychrome wood sarcophagus mask, with gold painted face, white eyes, blue eye brows and makeup detail, a large blue headdress with polychrome winged scarab across top, the body of which is a dark blue/black, with red, green and gold colored wings. Carved wood, likely cedar from Lebanon, with oringal wood pegs for mounting on sarcophagus. 12" x 9" x 3.5" (15"H on base).
Provenance: Ex-Paul Rosenberg Collection, USA, acquired in 1970.
