Good condition
These apothecary jars date to the 19th century. They are made of porcelain that is white glazed, polychrome painted and with gold rims. Each of the jars depicts the subject of two palms and a vase in the middle; snakes are winding around the palms. The rod, entwined with a snake, is the symbol of the medical and pharmaceutical status. The jars feature a smooth, cylindrical form with domed lid and knob. Each pot bears an original label lettered in black with the respective contents: ‘UNG: de SATURN.’ and ‘HOJ: de BAB:H:’.
The jars are in good condition with signs of age and wear. Gold abrasion is visible, especially at the snakes. The jar with the inscription ‘UNG: de SATURN.’ has got a small nick at the upper rim and at the lid. Each jar is 25.5 cm in height. (tm)
