Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, Mayan territories, Ca 500 to 800 CE. Rare and fascinating pottery mold used in the making of faces for pottery figures. Mold itself is made in the form of a bird mask with large beak in an almost kissing pose - showing even the molds were considered art! The small maskette that accompanies is of hardened resin and not original Mayan - but does come from this mold. Mold itself measures 1-7/8" L. Custom stand.
