Germany, first half of the 19th Century
Elegant Biedermeier design
Gilded capitals and bases
Dimensions: 73.5 cm broad; 201 cm high
This highly elegant wall mirror from the first half of the 19th Century has a rectangular mirror surface that is framed by pillars on both sides. These are especially highlighted by their gilded bases and capitals. The mirror is crowned with a triangular top piece, a so called “Schinkel Giebel” like the famous architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) who used this feature often.
The mirror is in good, but visibly used condition. The bases and capitals show material losses and the mirror glass is cracked at the upper edge (material losses). The veneer shows cracks and partial craquelure. The dimensions are 73.5 cm broad; 201 cm high.
