Description
Yampolsky, Mariana and Arturo Garcia Bustos (Mexican, 20th Century). "Ganaremos La Paz Si Luchamos Por Ella [with original mailing envelope]". Original color linocut. 1949. Signed "T.G.P." and dated in the matrix, lower left. Signed by G. Bustos and M. Yampolsky in the matrix, lower right. Edition unknown, presumed small. Thin cream wove paper. The full sheet. Fine impression. Overall good to very good condition; folds as issued for mailing; browning; a few soft creases. Provenance: Private collection, Mexico City. The famous poster is offered with the extremely rare envelope, virtually unobtainable. The poster was enclosed in the envelope and given to the delegates at the convention. There are several variants of this poster. As Pringnitz notes (p. 319), one version is in English ("American Continental Congress for Peace - September 5-10, 1949. Mexico City. We win peace by uniting for it.") and another has an alternate text ("El pueblo de Mexico difunde la paz. Saludo de los artistas de Taller de Grafica Popular."). The image on the envelope is an original linocut and measures 8 5/16 x 8 7/8 inches; the envelope size is 11 3/8 x 14 3/8 inches. A Taller de Grafica Popular collaboration, published by the TGP. Yampolsky's life span was 1925-2002; Bustos was born in 1926. Overall size: 31 11/16 x 23 11/16 in. (805 x 602 mm). Image size: 17 1/8 x 16 1/2 in. (435 x 419 mm). [22021] |1000| {K90}
