Description
Two bricks, each marked "R.M. Stork / Columbia, S.C."; 9" x 4 1/2", 2 1/2"H; in used condition with chips--Dr. Abner Landrum moved from Edgefield, SC, around 1832 to Columbia, SC, and started the Landrum Brick and Pottery Company on Bethel Church Road. John James Stork, who had married into the family, took over the brickworks after Landrum's death in 1859. His children, Edward Leslie and Robert Manning Stork, eventually renamed the brick factory in 1911 to the R. M. Stork Brickyards. The factory made bricks until the 1960s and was officially closed in 1970.
