LANDMARK HISTORICAL SHIP'S BINNACLE - Heath's Patent 'Hezzanith' Dry Compass on brass and mahogany binnacle, circa 1895, incorporating the new development of a dry compass having a lightweight card and silk cord spoked wheel balanced on a point, with brass dial rim and azimuth on glass cover, iron spheres, but lacking the cover with lamps. 40" x 26" x 14". Paper dial is splitting, finish has crazed. Heaths of London and Kent, introduced this revolutionary and affordable design innovation in 1893 when Lord Kelvin's patent on the wet compass binnacle ran out.
