This lot comprise six bottles from the 2003 vintage produced by wineries ownes by the famous French actor Gérard Depardieu, who has been increasingly active in winemaking since the late 1980s: three bottles of Le Bien Décidé Aniane from the Côteaux du Languedoc appellation and three bottles of Spiritus Sancti from the region of Toro in Spain.

The Toro region lies in the most remote part of the Castilian plateau (in the region of Castile and Leon). It is intersected by the Duero River, which continues past the Portuguese border and flows through other outstanding red wine regions. Until 15 years ago, Toro was a sleepy little town characterized by regional cooperatives that produced average wines at best. The region’s great capital is its areas of age-old, partly ungrafted vines of Tinta de Tora, the local variety of Tempranillo. These can produce highly concentrated, tannin-rich wines with considerable ageing potential. The turn of the millennium saw a rush to the region comparable with the American Gold Rush. While the results of this cannot be found everywhere, since the large cooperations in particular lack the funds to invest in new technical equipment, one should definitely keep an eye on the region and its 4,500 hectares of vine land.

The wine region of Languedoc is located in the northern part of Languedoc-Roussillon, which extends from the Rhône to the Spanish border. With over 300,000 hectares it is the largest wine cultivation area in France, its surface area alone equaling around triple that of all of the German cultivation areas combined. The area contains numerous AOC, the most prominent being Corbiers, Côteaux du Languedoc (near Montpellier), Minervois, Fitou and Saint Chinian. The vineyards are all located in close proximity to the coast and require regular irrigation during the dry summer months. Overall, the region is well on its way to becoming a prominent player and is considered to be one of the most interesting wine regions in the world.

The 2003 vintage Le Bien Décidé was rated between 88 and 90 points by Robert Parker in 2004.

The fill levels are excellent (into neck). The labels and capsules are in perfect condition.
