Message of the President, regarding the Chippewa Indians in Minnesota, printed government document, 51st Congress, Doc. 247, 1890, 193 pages, approx. 9 x 5.75 in., very good condition. RE: The government thought they had an agreement with the Chippewas' to remove to specific reservations but there was also a provision that any Indian could stay in his present reservation wherein the problem was. The President further said "the commissioners did not escape the embarrassment which unfortunately too often attends our negotiations with the Indians, viz: An indisposition to treat with the Government for further concessions while its obligations incurred under former agreements are unkept. --- consider promptly, and in a just and friendly spirit, the claims presented by these Indians through our commissioners, which have been formulated in the draft of a bill prepared by the Secretary of the Interior herewith. Record of all the meetings conducted with Indians at the various places where they resided. Signed in type by Benj. Harrison.
