Charles A Goodrich was an important 19th-century American author who is remembered for helping teaching American youth about the history of the U.S. and important legal documents. One of his works was his “Universal Traveller” – a survey of the worlds countries. Goodrich discusses many facets of each nation on a surface level offering descriptions of their religious customs, dress and costumes, warfare tactics, agriculture, superstitions, physical descriptions of people, geography, and so much more.
This 1838 edition is filled with full-page engravings – illustrations of Finnish peasants, Danish commoners, Scottish highlanders, Chippewa females, Brazilian gatherers and hunters, Persians smoking hookah, and many others.
