Description
5th-6th century AD. A group of two fragments from a sheath, comprising: one flat-section with scooped end, three interlocking cells with bulge to the centre of the long face and corresponding recess; beaded wire border and sockets for fixing pins; a similar piece with four cells, beaded wire and socket. Cf. similar cellwork on the purse from the Apahida treasure in Arrhenius, B. Merovingian Garnet Jewellery, Stockholm, 1985, fig.186. 3.03 grams, 35mm total (1 1/4").
