Two significant treatises on the American claims to the west coast areas under dispute. Thom, a Scottish lawyer who went to Canada to serve as a teacher, newspaper editor, government commissioner and magistrate, seems to have been most notable for his ability to alienate anyone French. Falconer's work is largely a response to William Sturgis's work.
