Badges and a puzzle of Andora’s Space Expedition program

In late October, 1992, the first ‘artist expedition’ started from the spaceport Baikonur into space. Andora has together with the concept artist Jurij Leidermann and Tschingis Aitmanov designed the painting of the rocket. Andora has realized his fantastic and ironic thoughts of the topic ‘man in space’ on the badges. This badge-artwork was published as an edition of 450 pieces. Ten different fire-enameled badges are pinned to the Andora-astronaut-stand-up display of cardboard and verso numbered and signed. In addition, there are twelve further badges of the edition. The stand-up display is 37 x 40.5 cm in size and the dimensions of the badges are max. 3.6 x 3.6 cm.

The ‘art Puzzle 1000 andora’ was released in 1996 by the Friedrich W. Heyne Verlag, Unterhaching. The puzzle consists of 100 pieces and was illustrated by Andora with space subjects. Spaceships, floating cosmonauts, aliens, robots and other playful space objects can be spotted. The dimensions of the puzzle box are 28 x 28 x 6 cm and the dimensions of the completed puzzle are 48 x 68 cm.

Andora (b. 1958)

Grown up as Andreas Hoge in Berlin-East, in the course of his career the artist, pop art painter and cosmonaut put on the pseudonym Andora. Accused of preparing for the flight from the GDR, he was expatriated to Berlin-West. He studied social education from 1980 until 1984. Afterwards, he started creating his first paintings that were of neo-expressionist manner. Later, conceptual installations and video techniques succeeded. Andora left the traditional canvas as a painting surface in the 90s and entered the three-dimensional reality with his pictorial language of bizarre creatures of a comic-like world and painted everyday objects. He accepted various commissions by large corporations, for example by WEST. This culminated in painting a Russian Proton rocket, which was then shot into space. Today, Andora lives and works in Berlin.
