An Important 18th Century George III Period Painted Four-Post Tester Bed, Ex. Collection of Pamela Harriman. Harriman, English Socialite turned Political Activist and Diplomat, is most famously remembered as Winston Churchill's Daughter-in-Law, who was later appointed Ambassador to France by President Bill Clinton. This impressive piece was purchased in May of 1997 from a special Sotheby's auction, featuring items exclusively from The Estate of Ambassador Pamela Harriman; Mrs. Harriman had purchased the bed through famed New York interior decorator Billy Baldwin. Arched tester with Stylized pendent border with painted decoration consisting of floral garlands; each cluster-column footpost with carved leaf embellishments. Original painted finish with wear and minor damage, replaced Silk hangings and upholstery. 71” x 78” x 87” high. ESTIMATE $10,000-20,000
