Ernest Maindron, to whom the artist dedicated the work wrote two groundbreaking books on the importance of the French poster as a fine art, the first appearing in 1886 and the second a decade later entitled Les Affiches Illustrées (1886-1895), Paris, Librairie Artistique, 1896.

Condition
Paper appears to be slightly undulating along extreme top and bottom edges under mat; light toning of paper (apparent in margins along bottom and right extreme edges); scattered water stains through letters along top edge, also near upper and center right edge, far left bottom edge, and center left edge; multiple (repaired) tears and creases, particularly along extreme right edge, the longest being 17.5 in. near bottom edge, as well as an approx. 12 in. crease (turned tear) in the upper left corner; not examined outside of frame.
