[Virginia]. 4 Items. 4to/folio. Paper. ++ Land Office Treasury Warrant. Order for 50 acres, to be surveyed and transferred to Robert J. Glendy, for $1. Page [2] has a handwritten text, “For value... I assign the within fifty Acres of Land Warrant of Joseph C. Gwin- June 2nd 1848,” signed by Glendy. Page [3] consists of a letter, “Deerfield 2nd June 1848/ Mr. Thos Campbell...” regarding division of the 50 acres into 2 lots. Page [2] also has 2 related notations in margin, both signed “Thos. Campbell.” Page [1] is partially printed, with blanks filled in in secretarial hand. Pages [2] and [3] are purely handwritten. Folds and creases (some probably contemporary). Light foxing, very good. ++ Handwritten receipt. Reads, “Received Washington City December 15 1857 of Wm A J Potts administrator of the estate of James Lumford Deceased of King George County State of Virginia,” had paid Mary Ann Peyton $34.30 that was due. Signed by the District of Columbia Commissioner of Deeds (Thomas C Doll) and Mary Ann Peyton. 3 horizontal folds, plus 1 light horizontal crease. Minor foxing and dampstaining, very good. ++ “This Indenture... between James Shields and elisabeth his wife of the one part...” selling Willis R Plunket 247 ½ acres in Nelson County, VA for $1500. The piece of land was on “...both sides of Hall Creek...” Signed by James Shields and Elisabeth Shields on page [2]. Lower portion of page [2] has signatures of 2 justices of the peace (“Littleberry N. Lizon” and “Robt. H. Anderson.” Countersigned by “Ro: C. Cutler.” Text was handwritten Mar. 19, 1828. The date provided by the Nelson County Clerk’s office on page [2] is “April the 24, 1828.” 4 horizontal folds. 1 section of the blank last leaf has docketing with an “1836” date. Dampstained (resulting in some running of ink). Chips to outer edge affecting legibility of 2 words. ++ Unsigned document (possibly a draft of the final document) for a transaction involving “Joseph E. Mogley of the County of King George of the 1st part... Joshua Reamy of the County of Stafford of the Third Part...” The name of the party of the second part is left blank. Jan. 1, 1849. 3 horizontal folds. Edge chipping. Minor foxing, very good.
