Item Details
Description
[Britain/Law]. 10 Volumes, containing 18 Acts of Parliament. The titles provided below are taken from the first text page of each statute, below the chapter number. Each of the 18 Acts of Parliament has an initial title page based on the year of George III’s reign and when the session of Parliament began and ended. For instance, the title page of the first statute listed below begins with: ANNO REGNI GEORGII III. REGIS Magnae Britanniae, Franciae, & Hiberniae, Quarto. At the Parliament begun and holden at Westminster... 4to (by size, mostly thin), signed in 2’s. Statutes were often sold individually, although the signings were coordinated so as to be continuous from one statute to the next when all the statutes for the year were sold as a larger annual edition. The statutes here were probably taken from that larger edition. 4 volumes (containing 12 statutes) are in modern paper-covered boards; the other 6 are in modern paper wraps. Very good to near fine. Text in black black letter, with Roman type for titles, Chapter numbers, and marginalia. The statutes are: ++ AN ACT TO CONTINUE SEVERAL LAWS… RUM OR SPIRITS OF THE BRITISH SUGAR PLANTATIONS BEFORE THE DUTIES OF EXCISE ARE PAID THEREON; AND TO THE FURTHER PUNISHMENT OF PERSONS GOING ARMED OR DISGUISED, IN DEFIANCE OF THE LAWS OF EXCISE...
