Important presentation photograph album prepared to honor the visit to Germany of Adm. Mikos Horthy, Prince Regent of Hungary, in 1938. Horthy was entertained by Adolf Hitler aboard the liner Patria on Aug. 23-24, 1938 during their cruise to Helgoland. The 12 1/2" x 9 1/2" album bears a brown faux leather cover with embossed ship. Within, the first page bears a gilt-lettered description of the dates of the visit, primary attendees, etc. The following pages include over forty 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" photos picturing those in attendance and key events, including Hitler and Horthy, Wilhelm Keitel, Werner von Brauchitsch, Walther Funk Joseph Goebbels, Erich Raeder, Heinrich Himmler, a review of naval vessels including the Graf Spee (scuttled by her captain a year later), U-51 (torpedoed by a British sub, August, 1940), U-27 (sunk the following month), U-30, Hitler's yacht Grille, other dignitaries, crew members, and more. A few small tears to cover, else in near fine condition. During Horthy's trips to Kiel and Berlin, Aug. 21-26, 1938, Hitler tried to convince him to participate in any proposed German attack on Czechoslovakia. Horthy first arrived in Kiel to tour the Germania shipyard and view the launching of the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, and then boarded Hitler's yacht Grille. The next day, they moved to the Patria for a cruise to Helgoland after which they commenced a tour of Germany.
