CA. 1868 REMINGTON DOUBLE DERRINGER
Remington Model 95 Double Derringer ("Over & Under Derringer"), one of the most recognized and famous firearms in the world. This example is stamped: "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y. and ELLIOT'S PATENT DEC. 12, 1865 on two lines on the rib above the upper barrel, thus a "Type I, Late Production (aka Model 2)", circa 1868-1888, of which about 14,000 were produced. Low serial number 747 puts this pistol's creation most likely in 1868. Manual slide ejector is fitted between the two barrels, and the hard black rubber grips are in fine condition. Hinge is not cracked as is often the case. The action is excellent. The Model 95 Double Derringer was designed by William Elliot of Remington, who had previously designed an entire series of popular and successful pocket pistols and derringers for the firm. The pistol was patented by Elliot and Remington in 1865, and went into production in 1866 through 1935!
