Karin Kneffel receives increasing attention on the international market; the auction record for one of her realistic depictions set around 115,000 euro

Karin Kneffel is interested in the depiction of motifs of unusual scale and perspective. Accordingly, the spectator may find colorful patterns of carpets, soft desserts or even sections of interiors reflected in the freshly waxed parquet floor. The present work shows the view on a staircase from below, so that the surrounding interior is completely left out. A dozy dog lies at the foot of the staircase and renders the scenery a funny touch.

The offset lithograph is signed and dated with pencil lower right ‘Karin Kneffel 2003’ and numbered with pencil lower left ‘2/80’. The surface of the print shows very light traces of touching and a few faint handling creases. The depiction measures 87 x 58.5 cm and the dimensions of the sheet are 98 x 67 cm. The framed work measures 113 x 81 cm.



Karin Kneffel (b. 1957)

The German painter Karin Kneffel was born in 1957 in Marl. Kneffel studied German philology and philosophy at the Universities of Münster and Duisburg-Essen. Thereafter, she attended the Art Academy in Dusseldorf and initially studied under Johannes Brus and Norbert Tadeusz. She finally completed her artistic training as a master student of Gerhard Richter. Since 2008, she has been a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Karin Kneffel is represented by a number of international galleries and her works are regularly exhibited in solo-exhibitions. (cbo)
