Mario Testino is one of the most famous contemporary portrait and fashion photographers in the world; the auction record for one of his photographs currently sets at 64,000 euro

The present offset print is a poster published on the occasion of the artist’s first solo exhibition held at the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2002. It depicts a portrait of Kate Moss at the age of 22, posing in front of a side mirror of a car and surrounded by the silhouettes of a number of young male surfers. Testino is a close friend to the fashion model for more than twenty years. The picture presented here is therefore one of his earliest shots and was taken in L.A. in 1996.



The offset print is signed with felt pen lower center ‘Mario Testino’. The sheet is slightly wavy and shows a number of vertical creases along the center line. The upper right corner is also creased, whereas the left edge is partially bumped. A small tear finally affects the lower right edge. The image size is equal to the sheet size of 80 x 60 cm.



Mario Testino (b. 1954)

The Peruvian Mario Testino started his artistic career in the late 1970s, when he was engaged as a fashion photographer by the British, American, French and Italian magazinesVogue and Vanity Fair. Fashion manufacturers such as Gucci, Versace, Gap and Burberry quickly became aware of the talented photographer, whose fine sense of moments, fashion and its production was outstanding. Testino also became a very sought-after portraitist and was, for instance, committed by celebrities of film, fashion and music as well as by members of the most famous royal houses. Photographs by Mario Testino have meanwhile fetched up to several thousands of euro on the international auction market. (cbo)
