Large archive of more than 800 black & white photographs, various sizes 7½x9½ to 12x15".
An assortment of Montfort's journalistic work from the Montreal Expo 67, the Paris riots of 1968, various Eurpean festivals and events, to behind the scene movie shots, the conflict in the Middle East, miscellaneous experimental images, and much more. A trove of fabulous images, well worthy of further classification and study. Many with Montfort's stamp or notes on the reverse. Should be examined. Also, a file of contact sheets and negatives, most fated 1968. Provenance: The Estate of Michael Montfort.
Michael Montfort was born in 1940 in Freiburg, Germany. He worked as a photojournalist on the staff of major German magazines - Stern, Quick, Bild am Sonntag - in Hamburg and Munich. In 1973 he moved to Los Angeles. He is best remembered for his extensive photographing of the poet Charles Bukowski.
