Description
This is an early view of McKinney's Resort from the shoreline. The resort was named after the owner John Washington McKinney who opened the business in 1863 under the name of the "Hunter's Retreat." In later years, the resort grew to accommodate a hotel, barber shop, dancehall, guest cottages and even its own post office! The photographer is identified as R.J. Waters, landscape photographer of Gold Hill, NV, who was active in the 1880s, but please note that he is listed in Berkeley on this card, which is not listed in Mautz. The matte measures 6.40" x 4.20" and the photograph measures 6.10" x 3.80." The matte has very little wear, and the photograph only has some minor stains on the top left side.
