Imperial County borders Mexico and Arizona and was a gold mining area. Although it is often the Golden Cross Mine that receives the most attention in this area, it was the Free Gold Mining Company that saved their bacon. The trustees of the Golden Cross blundered on many turns. They sold their property to a group of investors that formed the Free Gold Company and that company turned the red in the books to black. The Free Gold Company was incorporated in Genoa, Nevada. They are working day and night to get the additional 40 stamp mill up and running.
