Description
Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Ca 800 to 1100 CE. Wonderfully sounding pottery whistle, twin lobes connected by bridge, spout on the rear lobe acts as the mouthpiece, front lobe supports the head of a bird with relief wings and legs. The ancient cultures would keep precious chicha in these and would hear the whistle if someone was pouring the liquids out of the jar. Clever! 7-1/2" L.
