HERSCHEL JOHN: (1792-1871) English Mathematician, Astronomer, Chemist & Inventor. D.S., Sir John Herschel Baronet, one page, folio, n.p. (London?), n.d. (c.1855). The partially printed document, completed by Herschel, is an Exhibitor's Bulletin for the official catalogue relating to the Universal Exhibition of 1855, Imperial Commission, Agricultural and Manufacturing Products. Herschel states that his number on the list of admitted exhibitors is Rotation Number 724, gives his residence as the Royal Mint in London, that his line of business is Master of Her Majesty's Mint and that the product which he is proposing for exhibition is a Coin weighing machine. Unusual. VG €125-150||The Exposition Universelle of 1855 was an International Exhibition which ran from the 15th May to 15th November 1855 on the Champs-Elysee in Paris. It followed London's Great Exhibition of 1851 and 34 countries participated in what was a major event for France under the new reign of Napoleon III.||Herschel served as Master of the Mint from 1850-55.|||
