Description
UNAMUNO MIGUEL DE: (1864-1936) Spanish Novelist. A.L.S., Miguel de Unamuno, three pages, 8vo, n.p., 30th November 1906, to Arnaldo Cervesato, on the printed stationery of the University of Salamanca, in Spanish. Unamuno thanks his correspondent for Primavera d'idee which he states he will read with affection and send his impressions and judgement in case Cervesato wishes to publish it in Nuova Parola. He continues 'I suspect that you have sent me your book because of the note Papini dedicates to me in the last published number of Leonardo. I intend to send Leonardo a work with the pretext of rectifying Papini's error when he supposed me to be a Catholic in his note. (No, I am not Catholic, and I hope God will not allow me to fall into Catholicism)' and adds that he will mention the book when doing so. Unamuno further writes of his affection for Italy, 'I am very grateful to Italy - I still have its image full of life in my mind, when 17 years ago, being 25 myself, I visited it - because it is, aside from my homeland and the Spanish speaking America, the place from where I first received words of encouragement and of ideal fraternity. It is necessary that Spain and Italy know each other better….Not the Don Quixote, nor the discovery of America - the two greatest Spanish works - would have been Spanish without Italy'. A letter of good content. VG €500-750
