Description
BRITISH ROYALTY: Ernest Augustus I (1771-1851) King of Hanover 1837-51, son of King George III. A.L.S., Ernest, one page, 8vo, St. James's, 3rd April 1833, to a Lord. The Duke thanks his correspondent for a speech and continues to discuss the Church Reform Bill referring to a matter 'which I take as a good omen'; Edward, Duke of Kent (1767-1820) Father of Queen Victoria. L.S., Edward, two pages, 4to, Castle Hill Lodge, 17th October 1804, to Major General Burton. The Duke discusses the welfare of an individual and the disappointment he experienced in Canada due to 'the unaccountable and capricious conduct of the well known Peter Hunter, upon which, it is needless now to make any comment, as, thank God, we have neither of us any thing more to do with him, and I trust we never shall', further adding that he will write immediately to Lieutenant Colonel Gordon and ask him to place the man's name before the Commander-in-Chief for a commission, also remarking 'I only wish it were possible to do something for the old father also, but I fear that is quite beyond my power'; Mary Adelaide (1833-1897) Princess of Cambridge and Duchess of Teck. Mother of Queen Mary, consort of King George V. A.L.S., Mary Adelaide, three pages, 8vo, White Lodge, Richmond Park, 23rd March 1896, to the Lord Chancellor, forwarding a letter (no longer present) from a Mr. Bush 'who is most anxious that I should support an application' already made to her correspondent, further adding 'By the death of poor Mr. Thomas Hughes of Chester, a County Court Judgeship has become vacant and if the appointment could be conferred on Mr. Bush, I should indeed feel grateful, for he is a very worthy man and has become a decided Conservative'.
