A 19thc scrimshaw whale's tooth. The front of the tooth depicts the ship-rigged sloop of war USS Peacock. A banner beneath reads "Peacock Captures Epervier", (War of 1812). The opposing side has a portrait of Lewis Warrington framed in an American flag with eagle overhead. Measures 4.75" high.
Lewis Warrington was a Master Commandant and in July 1813, he took command of the sloop-of-war Peacock. An officer in the United States Navy during the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, temporarily served as the Secretary of the Navy.
