Description
A set of six nineteenth century Dutch spoons, each plain in outline with pointed bowl and shaped stem, Dutch hallmarks to reverse including maker's mark 'VK', lion passant (minimum .833 fineness), Minerva head with the letter 'c' for The Hague assay office and the letter date mark for 1866. Together with a nineteenth century Dutch preserve spoon with floral engraved decoration, date letter mark for 1876, and a further set of six smaller Dutch spoons, all struck with the single sword mark. Sold with a burr wood box with wording to the lid reading 'LEPELTJES'. (Dutch word for 'teaspoons'). Weight of spoons 3.78 ozt (117.8 grams).
Condition
Fair overall condition, all the spoons in the lot displaying some general wear including surface scratches, marks and some tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some small dints and bumps. Slightly heavier wear around edges and to tips of bowls but they have generally faired quite well. Some slight rubbing but hallmarks are mainly legible. General wear and marks to the burr wood box, including some quite deep scratches and nicks.
