Description
MEM A 8.9 x 13.6cm v intage postcard featuring a colour image of Le Rocher de la Vierge at Biarritz, boldly signed in ink "A. C. Read, U.S. Navy'' and "L. Bleriot". Minor edge wear and age toning, along with some smudges on Read`s signature. Louis Bleriot (1872-1936) was a French engineer and aviator, who made the first crossing of a large body of water in a heavier-than-air craft when he flew across the English Channel in 1909. Read, a lieutenant commander, piloted the early 'flying boat' NC-4 during World War I.
