The painting presented here was created by the Danish landscape painter Carl Wennemoes in the year 1930. Shown is the characteristic subject of a wintry forest landscape. Bright sunlight is shining on the snow-covered forest road under blue sky, which is lined with tall bare trees, its branches covered with snow. Due to the reflection of light on the surface Wennemoes creates an impressive play of light and shadow.
The painting is signed ‘C. Wennemoes’ and dated ‘1930’ with an indistinct annotation. It shows four small restorations in the right image with matching patches on verso. Otherwise overall of good condition. Size: 66 x 96 cm. Overall dimensions framed: 69 x 99 cm. The black golden framework with slight traces of use.
Carl Wennemoes (1890-1965)
Carl Wennemoes attended the Academy in Copenhagen where he was a pupil of Holger Grønvold and Peter Skov. He undertook study trips to Germany and Switzerland. In Italy he worked as a decorator and received commissions for the painting of church interiors. Thanks to a scholarship Wennemoes was able to continue his education, studying mural painting at various art schools. In 1927 he traveled to Paris. From 1928 onwards he spent time in Sweden each year, where many of his landscapes were created. Wennemoes showed his works in various Danish and Swedish galleries and exhibitions. (cru)
