These two drawings, executed in a particularly fine and detailed, almost picturesque way, were created by artist Rune Mields in the year 1998. Her themes and motifs Mields finds mostly in the field of mathematics. These two drawings represent the symbols plus and minus placed in front of a portrait. Below the image the artist makes a reference to the inventor ‘1489 entwickelte Johann Widmann das Addionszeichen/Subtraktionsszeichen inMercantile Arithmetic’.



The two drawings are each signed and dated in pencil lower right ‘Rune Mields 1998’. The sheets are mounted professionally on a support at the upper edge (reversible) and are in very good condition. Sheet size each: 28.5 x 19.4 cm.



Rune Mields (b. 1935)

Born in Münster, Rune Mields worked there as book seller before she moved to Cologne in 1972. Since the late 1960s, she has been working as a visual artist. Since 1984, she has been a visiting professor at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Mields is determined by the relationship of numbers and characters as well as the concept of infinity. The examination of sciences of diverse backgrounds, myths, philosophy and religions are often implemented in her large-scale paintings, cycles and series. (cru)
