Two compositions in one volume (with two separate title pages): • “Letters to the Jews, inviting to an amicable discussion of the evidence of Christianityâ€, by Joseph Priestley (1733-1804), a British priest, philosopher and chemist. Compositions about the “Privileges of the Jewish nation and the causes of their prejudices against Christianityâ€, “dispersed and calamitous state of the Jewish nationâ€, “The doctrine concerning the Messiahâ€, and more.

A composition defending the Jewish religion, in response to two of Priestley’s letters. The two works were published together, for the first time in the USA, in 1794 by the Jewish bookseller Benjamin Gomez. This is one of the earliest Jewish books printed in the US. At the time of publishing it was unique in that it dealt directly with the protection of the Jewish religion and in being published by Jews.
