Item Details
Description
Egypt, Early Dynastic Period, 2nd-3rd Dynasty, ca. 2700 BCE. An ovoid red and cream stone vase, the bag-shaped body with a tapering rounded base and a short everted rim. Pieces like this demonstrate remarkable craftsmanship, being carved and polished carefully from a single block of breccia marble, and would likely have been used in antiquity as a storage jar for valuable cosmetics, oils or ointments. A near miniature 2-1/2"H.
