Description
This interesting 19th century, relined oil on canvas was once believed to be a work by Winslow Homer. Signed Winslow Homer N.A. lower left, it was a gift in 1927 from the Holyoke League of Arts and Crafts to the Museum of the Holyoke Public Library. They deaccessioned it after determining it was not the work of Homer.There is an auction or gallery label from American Art Galleries , Madison Square New York; the first gallery and auction in American to champion American works The frame is a nice early 20th century Arts and Crafts one.The old Holyoke label describes it as an oil on Masonite, but it is an oil on canvas relined unto a stiff backing. Sight Height: 17 5/8 Inches (44.8 cm) Sight Width: 14 5/8 Inches (37.2 cm) Frame Height: 24 5/8 Inches (62.5 cm) Frame Width 21 5/8 Inches (55.0 cm).
