Description
John Hancock Appointment Signed. One page, 7" x 12", [Boston], February 23, 1788. Hancock, as governor of Massachusetts, here appoints "Christopher Gore Esquire of Boston . . . a Justice of the Peace within & for the County of Suffolk in this Commonwealth." Countersigned by John Avery. Bound with a second, partially-printed John Codman document appointing Robert Townsend Hove[?] as his attorney, countersigned twice by Christopher Gore as Justice of the Peace. This document is also dated February 23, 1788. Folds are weakened and separating in places. Two light rust stains at the upper and right edges from paperclips. Lower right corner shows damage. Hancock's signature is bold.
