Description
[Civil War]. George E. Pickett Partial Report Signed "GE Pickett" with secondary partial draft. One page, 7.75" x 12.25", [Virginia], June 9, 1862. Just one week after the Battle of Seven Pines [May 31-June 1, 1862], Brig. Gen. George Pickett filed this report on the recent engagement. Only the final page remains and it is written in an unknown hand and states, in part: "I must mention also that this Brigade which had so nobly conducted itself recently at the battle of Williamsburg, and had met with such heavy loss in this action had the distinguished honor of being selected together with Gen. [Richard H.] Andersons Brigade (which had also met with great loss) to remain under arms all night in line of battle, and bring up the rear, after valuable captured property . . . had been removed from the field, already stinking with yankee carcases [sic]." With an earlier draft of the final page written in pen with pencil notations added.
Folds are weak and beginning to separate. Paper loss in the upper right corner does not affect the text. Two small tears (.75" and 2") from the upper edge. Edges are chipped.
